Richard A. Russell was the President of the United States in one of the Germanias where America stayed out of World War II and Nazi Germany subsequently won the conflict in Europe. Marcus Americanius Scriptor cited a quote as exemplifying the attitude of most American politicians who chose to regard the war as a solely European conflict. (PROSE: Warlords of Utopia)

The United States will survive as a happy and fertile oasis of liberty, surrounded by a cruel desert of dictatorship.Richard A. Russell [src]

Behind the scenes[]

  • No American politician named "Richard A. Russell" existed. This may instead be a reference to Richard B. Russell Jr., a politician who served in the United States Senate from 1933 until his death in 1971 and who ran for the Democratic Party Presidential nomination in both 1948 and 1952. He notably supported racial segregation and co-authored the Southern Manifesto.
  • The quote is nearly identical to a real Franklin Delano Roosevelt quote, with the exception that Roosevelt specified that the United States "will never survive" under those conditions.
