Red blooms were planktonic algae found on Mars. It was toxic to fish, molluscs and mammals. The Fourth Doctor determined that the red blooms were created by Paul Ares and the Ares Corporation to discredit the peaceful group Redpeace. (PROSE: Crimson Dawn)
