Ram Singh was a sixth form student at Coal Hill Academy. He was a star football player for the school, and was in a long-term relationship with Rachel Chapman before she was killed by the Shadow Kin.

In 2016, when he was seventeen, Ram was in the group of students tasked by the Twelfth Doctor to protect Coal Hill from aliens.

He dated April MacLean for a brief period, but they broke up after Ram learned that April didn't feel as strongly for him as he did towards her. However, April later admitted that she felt the same towards Ram, but was killed by Charlie Smith before she could tell him[disputed statement].

While Ram considered himself to be a Sikh like his father, he did not practice Kesh, wearing his hair short, and choosing not to don a turban.

On the website "Myth City", Ram signed his posts "Striker".

Biography[]

Early life[]

When he was a child, Ram's father Varun would line up footballs for him to practice with. He was so small, he'd sometimes fall over them. With practice, he got better. (TV: The Coach with the Dragon Tattoo)

When Ram was a kid, his mates dared him to jump over the railing of and go into Alice Parsons' house, where, as they believed, a scary mad old woman lived. When he went to the front door and knocked, he heard the scuttling noises that the female bone spider made, close to the door. Even when the door opened and his mates ran away, Ram pressed on, feeling like somebody was calling him. He stepped inside not seeing who opened the door for him. But when Ram heard a scratching sound coming towards him, he finally bolted it jumping over the gate. (PROSE: The Stone House)

On 13 October 2016, (TV: The Coach with the Dragon Tattoo, Nightvisiting) on the football pitch, he spotted one of the Shadow Kin in shadow form pass over the football pitch and into a teammate's shadow. That night, he was on a Chat call to Tanya Adeola who helped him with his homework. The two of them talked about having seen the shadows before as Ram noticed one right behind her in Tanya's room. He called for help whilst Tanya tried to fight off the Shadow Kin that appeared in her bedroom before she managed to get rid of it by switching the main light on.

Ram in the TARDIS

Ram went to the Autumn Prom with Rachel. At the prom, Rachel was stabbed in front of Ram by the Shadow Kin leader Corakinus — spattering him in her blood — and was disintegrated. A grief-struck and furious Ram attacked the Shadow Kin which sliced off Ram's right leg. He then attacked Corakinus with a chair when it tried to take April MacLean with it back through the cracks in space-time before Ram collapsed due to his injury. The Twelfth Doctor later provided him with a Lothan prosthetic limb, which Ram had some difficulty in using. He became a member of the group the Doctor chose to defend from any aliens who came through the space-time tears, though somewhat unwillingly. (TV: For Tonight We Might Die)

After the events of the prom night, Ram avoided talking to the rest of the group, as he dealt with his grief alone. He struggled to play football with his new prosthetic and was frustrated by his inability to play anymore. When he went to talk to Coach Caroll, he found the body skinned and fled in panic whimsy re-experiencing Rachel's death in his mind. When he returned mere moments later, he found no trace of the body and was asked to leave by Tom Dawson.

Ram passed off what he saw as a PTSD-related hallucination and didn't mention it. After storming out of class, Ram went to have a cigarette with a cleaner, when the cleaner was attacked and skinned alive. Discovering Dawson disposing of the skin remains of Mr Armitage, Ram confronted him on the matter. Miss Quill suddenly crashed through a window after being chased by the dragon creature. The Coach explained the tattoo on his skin was the creature's mate and that the creature killed people for his mate to feed on as the coach couldn't get her off of his skin. When Dawson threatened to harm the mate, Ram told the dragon to spare everyone but himself, and to find a way of getting the mate back. The dragon dragged Dawson through the rip in time. That night, Ram finally explained everything to his father, including his prosthetic leg, this meant his father decided to help him with practice. (TV: The Coach with the Dragon Tattoo)

One Tuesday, Ram suddenly found himself in the body of John O'Donnell in the building of Joyriders company. Ram tried to bluff his way out through Steve Hopley, but his boss, Garry Fletcher, saw through the bluff and locked Ram in a dark room filled with corpses of aliens. After Fletcher left, Ram managed to escape by threatening Steve to cut O'Donnell's body. He placed a collect call to Tanya's house and persuaded her older brother Damon to tell her to bring everyone to Swallow Avenue just off Old Street, where he would be waiting for them. On the way back to Swallow Avenue, he was spotted by Fletcher in his car. Fletcher chased him on wheels and succeeded in running the body over, but not before Steve managed to reverse the swap returning Ram and O'Donnell each to their own bodies. Ram then sneaked back into the transfer room and took control of Fletcher's body. He met Steve and the two "joyriders" sent to capture Charlie and Miss Quill successfully returning in the bodies of April, Tanya and Matteusz and told Steve to transfer the "joyriders" further. As soon as Steve did that and himself vacated Matteusz's body, Ram, still in Fletcher's body, broke his nose. (PROSE: Joyride)

Ram tried to contact Tanya for help with the physics homework as he had done before but could not get through. He instead contacted April and discovered her love of folk music. Their Chat call was interrupted when knocking began on the window of his bedroom. Running into the street, Ram saw Lankin roots stretching across it. After realising that many people had been affected and wrapped up in Lankin roots, he called April and the two met up and kissed. Ram and April tried to stop the Lankin from feeding on Tanya's grief but became trapped themselves. They were freed when Tanya and Miss Quill together killed the main root. (TV: Nightvisiting)

After this Ram began to date April. When Tanya invited him and April on a double date, he refused. Upon learning that Paul Sanchez used to play football back in Ecuador, he invited him to join in the football squad. When Paul shape shifted into Tanya and wanted to kill her, he fought with him to stop it. (AUDIO: Catfish)

Upon Tanya's request, he and the rest of the group started investigating a girl Tanya saw in a window of an old stone house in Shoreditch. It turned out that creatures known as bone spiders had made their home in the house. During one of their break-ins, the current owner of the property, Constantine Oliver, called the police. Ram did not miss an opportunity to point out the knives Miss Quill was carrying with her. This resulted in a charge for possession of dangerous weapons. (PROSE: The Stone House)

He still didn't trust his alien leg after weeks of using it, as it over compensated giving more information than he needed. After convincing Neil to do something different instead of the ice bucket challenge, he felt a lot of guilt when Neil got burnt. He got very annoyed when his phone was stolen and his texts and nudes to Rachel were leaked on the internet. After April was kidnapped and they went after her, he became very good a being a soldier in the Skandis War, and wanted to keep the armour. (PROSE: What She Does Next Will Astound You)

He chastised April for creating a study group for English class. Later at football practice he met with Thomas Laneford who helped him up his game. Mab came up to him after a match to tell him he was gift and that she could fix his leg. He went to Carterhaugh House and started to think she was an alien. Mab used him a a beacon of strength. After being banished from the house, the coach of the football team sent him to the headteacher. He found Mab's card in his jacket but didn't know how it got there. He realised that that Tom was on the role of honour. He wanted to know why Mab got to Tom in the first place. He realised he was Mab's new host. After Tom died he went to show the football coach how good he was. (AUDIO: Gifted)

He hadn't signed up for work experience so Tanya Adeola signed him up for the same place as she was, Sevelin Laboratories. Initially he found it boring, but when the site went into lockdown he became more interested. Tanya initially scared him when she mentioned quarantine procedures. He became very scared when one of the alien specimens came after him after it killed Alicia Yan. He was shot at by Aubrey Khan. He used his prosthetic leg to kick the alien. He did the same trick with Marta Vanderburgh and kicked her into the lift. (AUDIO: Life Experience)

He became disheartened when April mentioned that she might want to go to a scheme which could take her abroad. Reagan Harper cheered him on at a friendly game. He told April about this. He took her to the cinema on a date. April asked her how long he had known Reagan, and he said longer for a while and that she lived on her street. Ram thought that April was being strange. He started to forget important events in his life as he started to think Reagan to the prom, April noticed this and told him that he was wrong. He told April that he didn't want anything to do with her. He later rang April when he realised that April was telling the truth as he found evidence of his relationship with Rachel. He knocked Reagan out with an Everybody Loves Reagan placard. (AUDIO: Everybody Loves Reagan)

Ram and Matteusz were on a team playing bowling against April and Charlie. He walked of angry because of Charlie accusing him of cheating. Walking home April and Ram got lost, in a forest. They later realised that they were to be prey in a hunt. His prosthetic leg hurt him, which made him concerned when he had to jump over a hole. He managed to fight off one of the wolves. (AUDIO: The Soers' Ditch)

After learning that April's father Huw MacLean was in Shoreditch and tried to talk to her, he tried to console her once she had also told him that Corakinus was having more of an effect on her. When Dorothea Ames told him to take April home, April and Ram ended up having sex before being caught by April's mother Jackie. Ram later left April's house but stayed nearby. After April attacked her father using a Shadow Kin scimitar, she used the scimitar to travel to the Shadow Kin's world. Ram chased after her before the rift closed. (TV: Co-Owner of a Lonely Heart) He wandered around the caves of the Underneath and was almost attacked by a Shadow Kin before April killed it. He followed her to the palace of Corakinus and tried to persuade her out of killing Corakinus. This included showing her his faith and the practices he observed. He watched April defeat Corakinus in battle, making April the new Shadow King. April found a link back to Earth where the two came back through. (TV: Brave-ish Heart)

During a physics mock he muttered about the Quill history in Quill's mind. (AUDIO: Mock)

Quill put him in detention to get him away whilst she could carry out her plans. Whilst in detention a meteor fell through a crack and dragged the room he was in into no-time, no-space. After seeing the effect that the Prisoner had on Matteusz and Tanya he grabbed the meteor and confessed that he loved April more than she loved him and thought that she could be the one. He was also knocked unconscious following this. April and he had to deal with the fallout of this whilst still being trapped in the room. After April also confessed this and he started to doubt their relationship. Once they had returned to Earth he immediately left the room. (TV: Detained)

He started to skip school after learning about his and April's relationship differences. He spent his days practising his football skills with his father, and in one such event Corakinus returned and killed his father. He went to April as she was the only person he could confide in. After Corakinus decided to threaten April's mother, he admitted to her that he still loved her, but when she didn't reply he decided to go to Leeds to see his mother. But before leaving he had a phone message from April telling him that she was afraid of telling him that she loved him but she did. He noticed that the Shadow Kin were starting to inhabit people's shadows he went back to the school just in time to catch April when she fell after Charlie shot her. He got angry with Charlie for this. This also killed Corakinus. After Corakinus seemingly resurrected he picked up the displacement gun to shoot him, but was surprised to discover that it was April who'd resurrected, in Corakinus' body. (TV: The Lost)

Personality[]

Already as a kid, he was very brave and proved himself to his mates by fulfilling various dares. (PROSE: The Stone House)

Ram outwardly appeared as a cocky student who, according to Andrea Quill, "hears silent applause" every time he entered a room. However, he was in reality a much kinder person in private. Rachel said she liked him because, deep down, his "sporting ego thing" wasn't true. (TV: For Tonight We Might Die)

He was somewhat of a bully to Charlie, (TV: For Tonight We Might Die, The Coach with the Dragon Tattoo) and refused to be associated with "geeks", making Tanya Adeola promise not to tell anyone that they did a Chat call together. (TV: For Tonight We Might Die) At first reluctant to join the others in defending Coal Hill as a group, he initially avoided them and refused to answer their calls. Eventually, he joined a Chat call and figured out that the Leaf Dragon was the same as the tattoo on Coach Dawson's skin. (TV: The Coach with the Dragon Tattoo)

After Rachel's death, he didn't want to talk about it with anyone, and felt he had to deal with it on his own. Part of the reason was that people thought him to be heartbroken, whereas he was full of anger, even rage at the fact that Charlie's life had suddenly intruded upon his and utterly ruined it. (PROSEJoyride)

At first, he chalked up finding Caroll's bloody body to PTSD. Scarred by what he'd seen, he even offered himself up to the male Leaf Dragon, willing to let it kill him, because he didn't want to go on. (TV: The Coach with the Dragon Tattoo)
