Gantok's queen with four million volts running through it. (TV: The Wedding of River Song)

The queen was a chess piece used in games of chess. Both players could use a queen, either black or white in colour. The queen piece was the strongest piece on the board and typically used the most often to gain significant advantages.(TV: The Wedding of River Song, Nightmare in Silver) It could move both horizontally and vertically. (AUDIO: The Lady in the Lake

Gantok was heavily reliant on the Queen, moving it 12 times in his match against the Eleventh Doctor, something the Doctor exploited, given it was live chess, meaning volts were flooded into the pieces, increasing the more they moved the piece. By the twelfth move, 4 million volts were running through it. The Doctor subsequently cornered Gantok, making the queen his only legal move, forcing Gantok to grant information about the Silence to the Doctor so he would concede, saving Gantok's life. Porridge used the queen piece to swiftly defeat Artie Maitland in a game of chess, taking advantage of his Fool's mate error. Mr Clever also noted in his game against the Eleventh Doctor how the queen piece was his only way to defeat him by taking his attacking bishop. The Doctor, however, sacrificed the Queen to free Angie and Artie Maitland from the Cyber-Planner's control, a move Mr Clever deemed foolish as, to him, it cost the Doctor the game.
