Pugwash Ahoy! was a comic strip by John Ryan, printed in the 2159th issue of Radio Times, which devoted significant coverage to the then-ongoing Doctor Who serial The Crusade.
Although featuring appearances by the Doctor and several other elements of the Doctor Who universe, the strip was also part of the recurring comic strip Captain Pugwash, making it the first fully-licensed crossover between Doctor Who and another fictional series. However, due to the fourth-wall-breaking nature of the punchline, this story is not considered a valid source on this Wiki.
Summary[]
After the First Doctor lands the TARDIS on the deck of his ship, the pirate captain Pugwash consults his Who's Who, puzzled. He eventually finds the information he is looking for and apologetically tells a discombobulated Doctor that he is "in the wrong place… the wrong century", while his crew, appearing more menacing than their leader, take aim at him and his travelling companions (a Dalek and Zarbi). Pugwash then adds that he is even "on the wrong page of Radio Times!".
Characters[]
Worldbuilding[]
- Pugwash has a candle on his desk.
- Willy aims a cannon at the Doctor and his companions.
- The First Doctor is carrying a suitcase bearing his name, Dr Who.
Notes[]
- As these three recurring characters of the Captain Pugwash series would have been readily known to readers of Radio Times in 1965, Barnabas, Master Mate and Willy are not named in this strip.
