The Plaza de San Francisco was a square in Seville. In 1572, a tribunal for Ian Chesterton and Esteban Aribi, whom the Spanish Inquisition deemed a spy and a traitor respectively, was held in the plaza. The First Doctor, posing as a cardinal, arrived at the square in an attempt to free Ian, but instead had his disguise foiled and was sent for execution along with Ian and Aribi.
