Corporal Paul Reynish (also known as Corporal 7891-Alpha) was a soldier in the British Army. He was the subject of a covert Ministry of Defence experiment using medication synthesised from a Martian meteorite that fell to Earth prior to World War I. He fought at the Battle of the Somme, the Normandy landings, Afghanistan and saved Josie during Operation Endeavour in 1996, entering into a relationship with her before she left him for Defence Secretary Brian Williams.
The pills that Reynish required to prolong his life cost the Ministry of Defence millions of pounds, causing Williams to decide to execute him in 2014 due to austerity. Patsy Haggard chose P.R.o.B.e. to end his life but he escaped with his brother Charlie, who he had been told was dead. After Charlie was accidentally killed by Major Johnson's men, he went on the run and eventually obtained the last of the pills from Liz Shaw after killing Professor Bennett. He was unaware that his death from a lack of medication would be explosive and risk the deaths of many.
Reynish took Josie hostage and was eventually persuaded to die, being killed by a chair owned by P.R.o.B.e. He was buried in a grave that Josie, Liz and Johnson visited. Liz left his dog tags there. (HOMEVID: When to Die) Giles later evoked the recent "controversial execution" of Paul Reynish as one of the past cases handled by P.R.O.B.E. in the first video case file he recorded as the new Director of the Bureau. He included archival footage of Reynish's death. (HOMEVID: First Entry)
