Nathaniel Whitlock was an explorer on Earth. He spent most of 1905 with the Sioux and learned many things, including how to hunt a buffalo with a bow and arrow. By 1911 he owned at least two dogs, Brutus and Portia, whom his daughter Phoebe Whitlock seemed to be fond of.
The Fifth Doctor and Nyssa met him when the TARDIS landed at his game preserve in Suffolk in October 1911. He told them about his adventures around the world. He helped the Doctor to find the Moonflesh entity. He possessed Vatuus.
His father fought in the Battle of Inkerman on 5 November 1854 during the Crimean War. (AUDIO: Moonflesh)
