Mike Smith was a Sergeant in the Royal Air Force under Group Captain Gilmore. He was also a member of a Fascist organisation known as The Association. During the Shoreditch Incident he was working as an informant for George Ratcliffe. He had a romantic interest in Ace. He had some knowledge of the Daleks' plans on Earth at the time and knew they were seeking the Hand of Omega. During the course of the Doctor's investigations, Mike was outed as an informant. He was detained, but later escaped to the Renegade Daleks base. Once there, he and Ratcliffe were betrayed by the Renegades. The two were saved from extermination by and attack on the Renegades by the Imperial Daleks.
