Miguel de Cervantes

Miguel de Cervantes was a famous writer from the 16th century, known to Ian Chesterton and Barbara Wright almost four centuries after his time. (AUDIO: The Flames of Cadiz)

Biography[]

As a young man, Miguel spent some time in Rome, before joining Spain's army. He was later captured by Barbary corsairs for 5 years until his family was able to raise a ransom.

In 1587, Miguel was living in Seville and providing supplies for King Philip II's Spanish Armada. He was married to Catalina. In that year, he met the First Doctor, Susan, Barbara, and Ian, helping them to escape the Spanish Inquisition.
