The matter transporter was a device inside the Sixth Doctor's TARDIS that allowed for the transportation of individuals across space.

Function[]

The matter transporter appeared to a red glowing panel on the TARDIS control console that could be activated by several buttons; there was seemingly a way to activate it next to the relay bypass drones, as well as another button to activate it being blue and located near another blue button, for an unrelated purpose. The matter transporter could both take and send individuals from and to specific locations, such as Earth, however precise usage of the device seemed to rely on the thoughts of the Doctor himself for accuracy. Furthermore, when an individual was being transported, they appeared to look pixelated as they appeared. (HOMEVID: A Fix with Sontarans)

Notable uses[]

The Sixth Doctor accidentally brought his former companion Tegan Jovanka onto the TARDIS when trying to isolate power to the control room; he got her to help after he explained the situation. However, Tegan herself accidentally used the device when the Doctor gave her a vague instruction, leading to a boy called Gareth Jenkins being brought onto the TARDIS as well. However, the Doctor deemed it too dangerous to send him back given the Sontarans were planning to destroy the TARDIS with a vitrox bomb. (HOMEVID: A Fix with Sontarans)
