Martian Civil War

The Martian Civil War was a period of New Mars' history — sarcastically referred to by the Third Doctor as "delightful" — that led to the deposing and execution of most of the Martian royal family and the rise of the New Martian Republic led by Grand Marshall Raxlyr, who placed the planet under martial law. Many Martians fled New Mars during this period and sought refuge on Peladon, which had recently joined the Galactic Federation. (AUDIO: The Prisoner of Peladon)
