According to the Eleventh Doctor, a manse was a "posh vicarage". As he once told Rory Williams, they were "all the rage in villages in the England of the 1930s". He found it odd that the village of Shalford Heights had a manse for Nathaniel Porter, but that the accompanying church hadn't been rebuilt in the years following the fire which destroyed it.
