Messier 87, known as M87, is a galaxy located in the Virgo Cluster of the Virgo constellation that was discovered in the 1700s by French astronomer Charles Messier. By approximately 5,000,000,023 CE, some of the Human race had settled on the planet New Earth after the original had been destroyed 23 years earlier. (DW: New Earth) It also contained the Felinus system, which included the planet New Savannah. (IDW: Agent Provocateur)

The Macra were called the "Scourge of the Galaxy(M87)" by the Doctor. This may mean that the Macra originate from M87. (DW: Gridlock)
