Lucky Day | Talk |
Lucky Day was the fourth episode of Series 15 (also marketed, globally, as Season 2) of Doctor Who. It premiered on 3 May 2025.
It was a Doctor-lite episode featuring the return of Ruby Sunday, after having departed as a companion in Empire of Death [+]Russell T Davies, Doctor Who series 14 (BBC One and Disney+, 2024). and after last appearing in a cameo in Joy to the World [+]Steven Moffat, Doctor Who series 15 (BBC One and Disney+, 2024).. Kate Stewart, UNIT as well as Ruby's family return again after their last onscreen appearance in Empire of Death, with this story revealing Ruby had joined UNIT while also struggling to go about her life after parting ways with the Doctor. The story also introduces the Think Tank conspiracy and protest group, whose main goal is to prove and discredit UNIT as frauds despite the evidence against their claims with mentions to past incidents from previous stories in Doctor Who.
The Doctor only appears at the beginning and the end of the episode with Belinda Chandra appearing briefly at the beginning, as the story arc of the Doctor being unable to return Belinda to 2025 is continued with them getting back to Earth, but in the year 2007, explaining their absence in the story's main events. The Doctor's appearances in this episode have him meeting the story's antagonist Conrad Clark "out of order," similar to River Song. The Doctor's first appearance occurs after the events of The Well, his second appearance occurs shortly after The Devil's Chord and his appearance at the end occurs between the events of Joy to the World and The Robot Revolution.
Mrs Flood also briefly appears at the end of the story: this time, she is seen as the governor of the prison where Conrad is locked up and continuing the mystery behind her appearing in different locations and eras. It's also revealed that the Doctor first learned of Belinda from Conrad, first mentioned in The Robot Revolution, who had learned of her by meeting the Doctor and Belinda in 2007.

Story notes[]
- Millie Gibson gifted Jonah Hauer-King with a Mermaid blanket in reference to his role as Prince Eric in the 2023 live-action remake of The Little Mermaid.
- The Shreek produces the sounds of Velociraptors from Jurassic Park and also Godzilla's from the 1998 Tri-Star film.
- Originally, the climax would've played out on the helipad from The Giggle, but the set had been dismantled, and rebuilding it in Autumn weather would have been prohibitively expensive.
- The episode formed Block Two of Series 15 alongside The Robot Revolution. The Doctor's role was minimised due to Ncuti Gatwa filming that episode.
