History[]

Library - Rose

The library in 2005. (TV: Rose [+]Russell T Davies, Doctor Who series 1 (BBC One, 2005).)

The building was present on the night of 4 March 2005. (TV: Rose [+]Russell T Davies, Doctor Who series 1 (BBC One, 2005).)

On 6 March 2006, it was visible when the Ninth Doctor took Rose Tyler arrived back in the Powell Estate after their accidental twelve-month absence. (TV: Aliens of London [+]Russell T Davies, Doctor Who series 1 (BBC One, 2005).) It was still present when the Doctor and Rose left again, leaving Mickey Smith and Jackie Tyler behind. (TV: World War Three [+]Russell T Davies, Doctor Who series 1 (BBC One, 2005).)

Later in 2006, when the Doctor took Rose back to the Powell Estate, as she exited the TARDIS onto the courtyard of the estate, she saw the library and the youth club to her side. (PROSE: Winner Takes All [+]Jacqueline Rayner, BBC New Series Adventures (BBC Books, 2005). Chapter 1; Page 13.)

The library still stood on Christmas Eve 2006, when the Tenth Doctor returned with Rose Tyler, with the outside of the building decorated for the season. (TV: The Christmas Invasion [+]Russell T Davies, Doctor Who Christmas special (BBC One, 2005).)

Behind the scenes[]

  • The Powell Estate, while technically a fictional location, is located in some sources in the 1:1 location of the Brandon Estate in London, one of the filming locations for the Powell Estate; the Brandon Estate, in the real world, also does have a library, so presumably the in-universe library and the real library are near 1:1 with each other.
    • The youth club also seen in Winner Takes All, named the Brandon Youth Centre, also exists in the real world. Its name also implies that the Powell Estate is also known as the Brandon Estate in-universe.
  • The library was visible in Aliens of London, can be seen much more briefly in Rose, and can be seen from ground level in World War Three and The Christmas Invasion.

Though it's possible that a real world location doesn't exist in the same geographic space in the Doctor Who universe, such cases are few and far between. Thus, the map at right is probably a good indicator of the DWU location of Library, Powell Estate.
