In the early 21st century, Leo Webster funded the Ares One mission when NASA went "practically broke", while using NASA's expertise to launch the Ares' mission to Mars. He agreed to fund the mission under the condition that his son, Paul, and his "niece", Tanya, who was actually an Ice Warrior-human hybrid, were brought along, and also that the mission landed as close as possible to "the anomaly", which Leo knew was an artificial alien construct.
