Kylie Special (also known as Christmas Confidential on the DVD and Confidential at Christmas) was the episode of Doctor Who Confidential broadcast in conjunction with Voyage of the Damned.

Unusually, the "Cut Down" version of this episode was never broadcast on BBC Three, it was only available on DVD.

Starting with this episode, the clips used in the title sequence would be unique for each episode.

Aspects of production covered[]

  • Kylie Minogue discusses Astrid as a character, and her desire to travel.
  • The casting of Kylie Minogue, and how it spawned out of meeting William Baker at the press launch for Series 3.
  • Louise Page's costume choices for Astrid, and the need to create multiple versions of it for Kylie, and her stunt & stand-in doubles.
  • The complexities of locations and supporting extras for a grand locale like the Titanic.
  • The sealing-off and secrecy of filming on a street in public for the scene where the Doctor and company are on Earth.
  • The logistics of filming Astrid driving the forklift into Max Capricorn, and then over the side of the platform.
  • David Tennant having to film the goodbye to Astrid without having Kylie there in some shots, and vice versa, as some shots would require her to be added in later in her 'stardust' form in post-production.
