Frank Kennedy (PROSE: The Evil of the Daleks [+]Frazer Hines, Mike Tucker and Steve Cole, adapted from The Evil of the Daleks (David Whitaker), BBC Books novelisations (BBC Books, 2023).) was an employee in Edward Waterfield's plan to lure the Second Doctor to him and turn him over to the Daleks.

Biography[]

Kennedy had done military service in the 1950s and hated it. (PROSE: The Evil of the Daleks [+]John Peel, adapted from The Evil of the Daleks (David Whitaker), Target novelisations (Target Books, 1993).)

When the Second Doctor and Jamie McCrimmon met with Bob Hall on 20 July 1966, Kennedy monitored their conversation as part of Waterfield's plan. He met up with Hall and told him that the Doctor and Jamie had followed him there. When Hall baulked at kidnapping, Kennedy knocked him unconscious and left clues for the Doctor to follow. Later after he reported to Waterfield, he became curious about what Waterfield was up to.

After a bit of searching, Kennedy found Waterfield's secret room. While he was trying to break into a safe in that room, a Dalek materialised on a time machine in the room. When Kennedy noticed it, he tried to run but the Dalek exterminated him. (TV: The Evil of the Daleks [+]David Whitaker, Doctor Who season 4 (BBC1, 1967).)

Zoe Heriot saw the moment of Kennedy's death on the TARDIS scanner when the Doctor used a telepathic projector to show her the kind of monsters she would be up against if she joined him and Jamie on their travels. (TV: The Wheel in Space [+]David Whitaker, Doctor Who season 5 (BBC1, 1968).)

Behind the scenes[]

  • Kennedy's first name, Frank, is revealed for the first time in Frazer Hines's novelisation of the story. Kennedy had previously never been identified with a first name, either in the televised version or in John Peel's novelisation.
