Joseph (or Joseph the Porter) was the name of two porters of Bernice Summerfield, or possibly the same one.

Biography

Originally he was an android assistant to Victor Farrison, who sacrificed himself to save Bernice, the Seventh Doctor and Ace. The Doctor took his omnitronic processor, saying he would give it to someone who could salvage the personality from it. (AUDIO: The Dark Flame)

When Bernice took up residency at St Oscar's University on the planet Dellah, Joseph was her robotic porter drone. He resembled a floating billiard ball who took messages and relayed information to her. (PROSE: Oh No It Isn't!)

Benny in Babylon

It was later revealed that Joseph was in fact a spy for God and was a ship by the name of J-Kibb in "disguise". (PROSE: Tears of the Oracle)

After Dellah was destroyed and Bernice moved to the Braxiatel Collection, Irving Braxiatel gave her a new porter, also called Joseph. He was either based on the Joseph that Bernice had had on Dellah or on the omnitronic processor that the Seventh Doctor had salvaged from the Joseph android. (PROSE: The Doomsday Manuscript)

He continued to work as Benny's porter and assistant during her stay on the Braxiatel Collection. He often accompanied her on her expeditions. One such expedition was to Gigamarket, where he started to malfunction. His time circuits said they were in the wrong time. He later tried to sell Benny upgrades and reading part of her diary at inappropriate moments. (AUDIO: The Greatest Shop in the Galaxy) He also went to Marlowe's World, where has had to be downgraded to be allowed on on the planet (PROSE: The Tree of Life). Benny often got him to record her diary. He accompanied Benny to Goronos and wasn't sure when Benny left Peter Summerfield in the care of Jason Kane and Adrian Wall. (AUDIO: The Green-Eyed Monsters) He often aided Braxiatel in his duties. (AUDIO: The Bellotron Incident) He was able to rescue Bev Tarrant from her torture cell. He then aided in her final battle against the Axis. He delivered a message to Braxiatel to warn him that the Daleks were behind the Fifth Axis. (AUDIO: Death and the Daleks)

Jason asked him to look for time displaced 20th century television signals to show Peter, when he changed the channels he picked up Grel security signals from 2646. He was taken with Jason, Benny, Peter and Sophia through time. (AUDIO: The Grel Escape) After the history machine incident, he was retrofitted to look after the wounded. (PROSE: Siege Mentality). He delivered a message from Thesanius for Benny to Jason which told him to go to Cantus. (AUDIO: The Crystal of Cantus) When Benny went missing he gave Jason information that CroSSScape had information on her whereabouts. (AUDIO:The Tartarus Gate)

He helped Bev Tarrant in her negotiations to protect the collections. Although he was an android he was infected with the sex virus and tried it on with Benny. (AUDIO: Summer of Love) He also assisted Hass by venturing to the Mimsphere on a diplomatic mission. (AUDIO: The Judas Gift) He lost a lot of memory when the Mimsphere exploded. (AUDIO: Freedom of Information) After Jason's death he spent most of his time looking after Peter. (AUDIO: The Wake)

He helped Braxiatel to move an energy field to Maximediras and tested its effectiveness. (AUDIO: Resurrecting the Past) The Deindum took him apart and downgraded him to the point that he couldn't remember what had happened to Braxiatel. Adrian Wall helped him to escape. (AUDIO: Escaping the Future)

In the wake of the Deindum War, Joseph was found by Bev and Adrian in an escape pod. He came to live with them on Valentine's World. (PROSE: Adorable Illusion)

Sometime in the future, Joseph was recovered by researchers constructing an exhibit based on Benny's life. He assisted Benny in destroying the museum's data on her, saving her life from the infected database which was trying to kill her. (AUDIO: Many Happy Returns)
