Jodrell Bank Observatory

Jodrell Bank is an observatory in England.

In 1963, the Seventh Doctor requested Jodrell Bank, Fylingdales and the Royal Observatory to search for transmissions used to beam Daleks down to Earth. (TV: Remembrance of the Daleks)

In 1986, Jodrell Bank detected the return of Mondas to the solar system. (TV: The Tenth Planet)

Ace visited the location while taking part in The Ultimate Challenge. She claimed it had a radio telescope that could detect the radio signals emitted by stars and a computer would draw an image with the information it collects. (TV: Search Out Space)

Jodrell Bank, along with New Mexico's Very Large Array, did not notice the "giant rock" Guinevere One came into contact with (actually the Sycorax's ship). (PROSE: The Christmas Invasion)

Captain Jack Harkness knew a man called Neil at Jodrell Bank, who apparently had a voice like Sean Connery (TV: Cyberwoman). When Gwen Cooper phoned Neil, she said "we're always after something, aren't we?", implying that Torchwood regularly used him as a contact.

Jodrell Bank traced the signal for ATMOS to a Sontaran spacecraft and provided a report to UNIT. (TV: The Poison Sky)

The Eleventh Doctor consulted experts from Jodrell Bank, among others, when the Atraxi threatened to destroy the Earth. (TV: The Eleventh Hour)

The Doctor and the Master had an altercation at Jodrell Bank Observatory, for which the Master did not apologise. (TV: Spyfall)

In March 2065, Jodrell Bank's Omega-Minus Detector Meter picked up evidence that the Omega-Minus device had entered the Solar System and was heading towards Earth at high speed. Jodrell Bank's director, Professor Logan, informed the World Security Council of this. (PROSE: Earth in Peril) However, Jodrell Bank later lost contact with the device (COMIC: Power Play) as it approached the Eros Asteroid Belt, with Logan issuing a brief communique which stated that he and his scientists were working non-stop to regain contact. (PROSE: Stingray Hunts Aliens)

Behind the scenes[]

Jodrell Bank stood in for the Pharos Project for the serial Logopolis. The reference to Jodrell Bank in TV: Spyfall is likely an erroneous reference to the filming location.

The Season 18 Blu-ray release features an updated model of the Lovell Telescope, along with other special effects upgrades. New footage taken at Jodrell Bank was used.
