Sergeant Jean-Paul Savarin worked alongside Brigadier Winifred Bambera in the late 1990s.

Biography[]

Early life[]

Savarin was French. (AUDIO: Rogue State) He joined UNIT and worked for Internal Security, thankful that his homosexuality was not an issue as it was in other military organisations at the time. (AUDIO: The Frequency)

Joining UNIT-UK[]

Working for UNIT's Internal Security, Savarin escorted Winifred Bambera on her flight from Valge Maja to Geneva and joined her in going to MV Dimitri to put a stop to Roman Krojač's plans. His men found the Chuchuna and, after the ship crashed at the Port of London, he was forced to stun one by hitting it with a vehicle. He replaced Anatoly Yugorovich Portnoy to help Bambera capture capture Krojač, but he was ultimately killed by the Chuchuna, who were then put into hibernation. At Bambera's insistence, Savarin became her second-in-command at UNIT-UK. (AUDIO: Rogue State)

Savarin and Bambera met Louise Rix at the Caverhurst Seedbank and Research Facility to investigate the death of Amy Flynn and the disappearance of Barnaby Andrews. To destroy the caterpillars, Savarin had electrified containment panels placed around the facility and started killing them with flamethrowers, after which he and Bambera went after the chrysalises. He killed a butterfly and ordered the container to be destroyed. (AUDIO: Time Flies)

Savarin Seabird One

Bambera sent Savarin to Deptford where he found that Private Henderson had stolen an Omega 4 explosive and Private Chavda massacred the other soldiers. Whilst searching Space Control for the bomb with Rix, he was possessed by Helena McNamara and required medical care afterwards. He confided in Rix that he was gay and pushed her to ask out Private Jake McManis. (AUDIO: Dark Side of the Moon)

The Zeta Hydri[]

Savarin joined Bambera and Rix in testing Colonel Alexander Hagen's maze and the Hoplite Frequency. Due to his experience of the attitudes towards homosexuality in the armed forces, Savarin was distrustful of Hagen's desire to make people uniform and was suspicious of the frequency. The three of them ultimately proved that they could work together without it and defeated Hagen, who was arrested. (AUDIO: The Frequency)

Whilst Bambera and Rix were in Greensands, Savarin informed them of Dom McNeil's attack and, later, that UNIT had found that Clayton Winfield went missing decades before. He listened to Bambera and Rix's recording of their encounter with Baghead but, like them, could hear nothing of him. (AUDIO: Haunt)

Savarin helped with security at the Unified Nations Security Council conference at St James's Palace and was surprised to find that Dame Lydia Kingsley had brought in UNIT Internal Security. He escaped when the Zeta Hydri attacked, putting in earpieces to protect against the Hoplite Frequency, and later helped Rix and Colonel Birch kill the Zeta Hydri. Whilst celebrating the new millennium, Bambera informed him and Rix that UNIT-UK would be moving to the Tower of London. (AUDIO: The Last Line of Defence)

Personality[]

Savarin enjoyed reading novels and poetry in both English and French. (AUDIO: Rogue State, Time Flies) He drank coffee (AUDIO: Dark Side of the Moon) and champagne (AUDIO: The Frequency, The Last Line of Defence) and believed that the beer in the United Kingdom was appalling. (AUDIO: The Frequency)
