Marsters' is best known for his performances as the vampire Spike in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and its spin-off, Angel. His character used the alias "The Doctor" in the Season 6 episode, As You Were, of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, though his actions bore no similiarities to the namesake. Marsters has a recurring role as extremist leader Barnabas Greeley in the Battlestar Galactica prequel series, Caprica, which began airing in North America in 2010. He reteams with Torchwood star Naoko Mori in SYFY's new series Three Inches in 2011.

Besides acting, Marsters is a guitarist. He has a son named Sullivan born in 1996.
