A jaguar was an Earth mammal native to at least South America. A large, wild cat, it was hostile to humans.

The Second Doctor, John and Gillian once put a jaguar into a trap to harass any men who fell into it. This "jaguar trap" was a part of a larger scheme to defend one village from another. (COMIC: The TARDIS Worshippers)

Some jaguars were taken from the Amazon rainforest by the Nadurni for experimentation. They were later freed by the Eleventh Doctor. (AUDIO: The Eye of the Jungle)

Cultural references to jaguars

In Brazil, the Fifth Doctor and Turlough once met a woman named Rosa Caiman who took on the spirit identity of a jaguar. She possessed a jaguar hide which connected her to her avatar. (AUDIO: Loups-Garoux)

Later, on the planet Dewyn, the Tenth Doctor and Martha encountered a vast collection of artefacts from Earth at the Ancient Worlds Theme Park. At one point, they needed to hide from some approaching thugs, so Martha wore a jaguar costume that the park was selling in their "Aztec Zone". (COMIC: Inhuman Sacrifice)

Ixta's formal wear was a jaguar-skinned costume and mask. (TV: The Aztecs)
