The Isle of Skye was one of the Hebrides, a group of islands off the coast of Scotland and was located along the Minch Strait. At Waternish, a place on the island, there was an inn where Jenny Flint, Vastra and Strax once stayed. Locals to the island were wary of visitors. In the 10th or 11th century, a group of blue coloured alien scientists came to the Isle of Skye to study the ways of the people of planet Earth. Aquatic creatures with gills, the aliens lived in the Strait of Minch and became known to locals as the legendary Blue Men of Minch. History[]
Over the course of fifteen weeks in spring 1894, at least fifteen fishing boats disappeared from the seas off the Isle of Skye and people reported seeing the mysterious blue men in the area and suspected they were responsible. An unknown individual contacted the Paternoster Gang to investigate the mystery. The trio sailed out to sea to find the blue men, suspecting alien activity and soon met the Blue Men of Minch themselves. The Blue Men of Minch warned them to turn back or perish, but Vastra and Strax confronted them on the missing fishermen of Skye. Surprised at the accusations, the leader of the Blue Men explained they were only scientists and observers. While the two groups spoke, rifle fire rang out across the Strait and several boats of blue men descended upon them to attack. The Blue Men of Minch and Strax fought off their attackers and the leader used a device that caused all the other boats to capsize, plunging the occupants into the sea. The water washed off the blue colouring and revealing them as merely human thieves and smugglers disguised as the legendary creatures to scare their victims. With the help of the Blue Men of Minch, the Paternoster Gang captured the thieves and Vastra interrogated them with the help of Strax. Later, Jenny turned them over to the local authorities on the Isle of Skye to face justice for their crimes.
