Ikona was a Lakertyan male and the brother of Lanisha. He rebelled against the First Rani's rule, but had difficulty convincing the rest of his people to do so. After helping the Seventh Doctor defeat the Rani, he became the new leader of his people.

Although the Doctor gave Ikona the antidote to the Rani's killer insects, Ikona poured this away on the ground as he believed that if the Lakertyans were to survive, they must solve their own problems from now on. (TV: Time and the Rani)
