Publisher's summary

There is a message for you. It comes from a long way, from a dying world. No, not a dying world. A killed world. And the message is from the killer.

Please attend carefully. The message that follows is vital to your future...

However much longer that may be.

Plot

The sound fails as the Decayed Master asks to talk to whoever is listening to hear him talk, because his bored, saying that "it can't hurt to listen... Can it?". He proceeds saying that the he seeks fun where he can, but is no fun being trapped in a decaying husk is no fun, and that he wants a healthy body, but few people aren't worth of hosting him. When he asks if someone suits him, they run away or the Doctor show up, and that he became discontent and violent.

He says that is easy to blame your parents, but you should have seen his parents back on Gallifrey. But he really only wants to smash everything up, and that there is where the fun begins. And he add that if you want to smash everything up, you should do it in a grand scale. For that, you should exercise some power, and illustrates the fear he strikes on people, but "such games are for children", and to strike real fear you must have great powers. And asks "are you still listening?", as some screeching sound waves very low.

The Master points out how power decays, that as a Time Lord, you already know everything go wrong in the end, and speculates on travelling in time to live only one good part of a story, and that he usually do that til The Doctor show up and end it. He questions why the "goodies" always wins, that the universe has much darkness but the interesting things happen around the light, and that the galaxy should have a planet of multiplying clones of him. He points how creation takes time and that destruction is very much fast and enjoyable for him, as well life forms can always be easily convinced that they are better over other group of people, that the "evil" always originates from the attempt of making the right thing, and that it comforts him.

Then, he starts to tell a story about him, that it will be edifying as he is the most intelligent being in the universe, despite anyone in your mind, as "his reputation is altogether overrated... as hers will be".
