Hubert was a Norman, and heir to the title Earl of Mummerset, and hence Stockbridge Castle.
In 1192, Hubert died in a Crusade in Palestine, after receiving a head wound. His apothecary, George was threatened with death, unless he were able to save Hubert, so he instead assumed identity to save his own life. Intending for the pretense to be short lived, George planned to have Hubert be apparently captured by the Saracens, but instead he, himself, was captured, forcing George to keep his pseudonym for a lot longer than he had planned. George arrived in Stockbridge in 1199, attempting to claim the castle as his own. (AUDIO: Castle of Fear)
