The Hesperus was a spaceship owned by Vinvocci, humanoids with spiky green skin. It was a salvage vessel, chiefly used to trawl asteroid fields for junk.
Description
The Hesperus was two hundred or three hundred feet in length, shaped like a sort of fish or bird-like creature, with the bridge in the head. It had a dorsal fin-like structure on top, which appeared to be used for stabilization when in a planet's atmosphere. It had two further fins angled on its underside. It had thrusters in the rear and rows of yellowish lights running along the head. (DW: The End of Time)
Armament
Though not intended for combat, the Hesperus was armed with asteroid lasers to blast away meteoroids and asteroids. These lasers proved sufficent to destroy human made missiles. (DW: The End of Time)
Behind the scenes
- The Hesperus's name was never used on-screen. However, it was mentioned in the Doctor Who Confidential episode for part two of The End of Time.
- The ship bears similarities to Red Dwarf's Star Bug One.
