He Who Fights With Monsters was a video prologue, termed a trailer in credits, to Big Finish Productions's He Who Fights With Monsters audio set of the War Doctor Begins, similar to Gallifrey War Room. It was released on Youtube and the Big Finish website.
Plot[]
While travelling through the Time Vortex in his TARDIS, the young War Doctor reflects on his choices and the Last Great Time War, declaring that he must become as unyielding as the Daleks to defeat them. The battle cries of Daleks echo.
On a battlefield, Spider Daleks march past the destroyed casings of regular Dalek drones, proving the War Doctor's belief that the Daleks continue to survive no matter what he does. The Doctor declares he is on an irredeemable path. One of the drones, however, has survived and reveals it has seen "beyond the storm", and that it had seen "him", who it described as "death". Elsewhere, aboard a Dalek ship within the larger Dalek Fleet, the Dalek Time Strategist exults that the Daleks will win "in every reality".

- The Time Vortex is seen on the TARDIS scanner.
- The War Doctor's sonic screwdriver rolls on the TARDIS console. Notably, it sports the same emitter head and metallic finish used on the Seventh and Eighth Doctor's model, but with the red cap and detailing that it featured later in the War Doctor's life.
- The Doctor mentions that he never wanted to fight, but now has no choice.
- He also mentions that the stakes are "everywhere and everywhen; all of history, the entire universe - past, present, and future" is an "arena of war".
- The Doctor states that his own past is a battleground - his values, his legacy, and even his name.
