Hazelbury Abbas was the small village in Dorset where Sarah Jane Smith's aunt Lavinia bought Bradley Manor, and moved from South Croydon, in 1979. Along with her furnishings, Lavinia took a crate that had been delivered for Sarah Jane the previous year. Unbeknownst to Lavinia, the crate contained K9 Mark III. Lavinia's ward Brendan Richards nominally resided with Lavinia but boarded at Wellington College during the academic year; he wanted to attend the local comprehensive school in Hazelbury Abbas.
It was about five miles from Sherborne, via the Dorchester Road and Thornford, west of the Yeo Valley.
The village contained a Saxon church. a grocery store with sub-post office, a small school, a pub and an old water mill. One of the streets was called North Street, containing thatched cottages.
The local newspaper was The Echo. (PROSE: K9 and Company)
