Hawthorne was a police inspector in the Bermondsey area in 2001. He regularly visited The Dusk, where Reggie Mead would have the tables rigged in his favour. By keeping Hawthorne happy at the casino, Mead ensured that the inspector would not investigate his criminal activities.
He was at The Dusk on the day the Sixth Doctor and Evelyn Smythe visited the area in November. Reggie greeted him, directed him to his usual table, and ordered him a drink. Later, after the club closed, Eddie told Reggie that Hawthorne had a "nice run of luck". (AUDIO: Project: Twilight)
