Hans Engel was a German cellist who played in Abendroth's orchestra. When World War II came, he signed up to be a Nazi soldier in North Africa under Field Marshal Rommel. When Rommel and the Twelfth Doctor wanted to investigate who the new allies of the Tuareg tribesmen were, Hans ordered Rommel's car to be ready. He ordered another car and took Clara Oswald prisoner after Heinz Bruckner had framed both Clara and the Doctor as spies. When Bruckner revealed himself to be a spy, Hans tried relieving Bruckner of command. Bruckner then shot a blast of electricity at Hans. When the Warsong began to activate, Hans was one of several soldiers who became a part of the weapon. (COMIC: The Instruments of War)
