Hamlet's mother

Hamlet's mother was a character in William Shakespeare's play Hamlet.

In his first thoughts for the early scenes of the play, Shakespeare wrote that Hamlet's uncle married his mother after murdering his father in order to steal the throne. Shakespeare also briefly considered the confession of Hamlet's mother as the way in which Hamlet would have discovered the murder but quickly dismissed the possibility as she would not have known.
