Gerber was for many centuries a respected and influential Commentator on Gallifrey, and also served for a time as an advisor to various Lord Presidents. By the time civil war broke out on Gallifrey between the supporters of Romana II and Pandora, Lord Gerber had been in retirement for some time. He firmly supported Romana, but kept his propaganda activities on her behalf a secret, for fear of repercussions. However, Darkel — a supporter of Pandora — discovered his sympathies and arrested him. Knowing that he still had enormous respect among the population, and that he could influence them to follow one side or the other, Darkel forced him to make a broadcast condemning Romana. When he tried to sabotage the broadcast, Darkel had him killed. (AUDIO: Fractures)
