Gendar Appearances Talk

You may wish to consult Gendar (disambiguation) for other, similarly-named pages.

The Gendar were a species that originated on the planet Gendar. They worshipped the Sun Builders of old as their gods, continuing to do so even after their destruction; some nationalistic Gendar claimed such titles as "the Hybrids, the Children of the Gods, the Chosen of Time, and Heirs Apparent to the Firmament, although this was old-fashioned.

Biology[]

The Gendar were pure white-skinned humanoids with purple hair, irises, and blood. (PROSE: She Came From Another World! [+]James Wylder, P.R.O.B.E. short stories (Arcbeatle Press, 2020)., Ring Theory [+]Charles Whitt, Cwej: The Series (Arcbeatle Press, 2020).) They were physically weak. (PROSE: A Worthy Successor [+]James Hornby and James Wylder, Cyberon (Arcbeatle Press, 2020)., She Came From Another World! [+]James Wylder, P.R.O.B.E. short stories (Arcbeatle Press, 2020).) They also had "a special relationship to Time". (HOMEVID: Daylight Savings [+]James Hornby, P.R.O.B.E. (BBV Productions, 2021).) Gendar body language was somewhat different from the human one, meaning, for example, that Maxie had some trouble learning to smile in a way that would look "right" to humans. (AUDIO: Broken Bonds [+]James Hornby, True Origins (P.R.O.B.E., BBV Productions, 2021).) Gendar biology was more susceptible to the influence of the Cyberon drug than human physiology, with a single dose being enough to put them under the Cyberon intelligence's control. (HOMEVID: The Only Cure [+]P.R.O.B.E. (BBV Productions, 2022).)

Culture[]

Gendar culture developed around a religion and corpus of legends about the Sun Builders, who were viewed as gods, (PROSE: Out of the Box [+]Aristide Twain, Out of the Shadows (P.R.O.B.E., Arcbeatle Press, 2021).) starting with the two who, alongside the Firmament Virtuoso, had brought them into existence: Auteur was worshipped as "the Goddess", and Gideon as "the God". The third figure who had assisted them was depicted in some carvings, but was left nameless, as Virtuoso instead preferred to live among the Gendar, reemerging every few decades as the leader of the Historic Preservation Society without letting her true nature become known. (PROSE: The Gendar Conspiracy [+]James Wylder, A 10,000 Dawns Christmas and The Outer Universe Collection (10,000 Dawns stories featuring DWU elements, Arcbeatle Press, 2019).)

There were different strains of religious thoughts within Gendar culture, however, such as Cultists of Urizen who worshipped Urizen the Architect above all others, or more modern-minded Gendar who viewed the worship of the old gods as nothing more than superstition. Whether one worshipped them or not, however, the mark of the Gods was apparent on the planet, with none denying their historical existence; there existed tourist landmarks built by the Sun Builders, such as Auteur's Babbling Bibliothèque. There were also legends about various elements of the Sun Builders' history, such as the Song of Aten's Arsenal.

In some ways Gendar culture was quite similar to human culture ; (PROSE: Out of the Box [+]Aristide Twain, Out of the Shadows (P.R.O.B.E., Arcbeatle Press, 2021).) Maxie noted that her race and the people of England seemed to share the tradition of drinking cups of tea. She brought a computer with her that contained movies, shows, and music from Gendar. (PROSE: She Came From Another World! [+]James Wylder, P.R.O.B.E. short stories (Arcbeatle Press, 2020).) However, Gendar science was much more advanced than human science was in the early 21st century. Maxie found the human Internet "fascinatingly ill-designed", and considered human scientists' understanding of dimensional physics "laughably incorrect". She had difficulty grasping the nuances of human religious thought. The planet frequently welcomed extraterrestrial tourism, (PROSE: Out of the Box [+]Aristide Twain, Out of the Shadows (P.R.O.B.E., Arcbeatle Press, 2021).) and the Gendar had access to intergalactic spacecraft (PROSE: She Came From Another World! [+]James Wylder, P.R.O.B.E. short stories (Arcbeatle Press, 2020).)

There existed a Gendar language (PROSE: Out of the Box [+]Aristide Twain, Out of the Shadows (P.R.O.B.E., Arcbeatle Press, 2021).) that sounded like singing and involved hand and face movements. (PROSE: She Came From Another World! [+]James Wylder, P.R.O.B.E. short stories (Arcbeatle Press, 2020).)

Gendar typically wore long layered garments and goggles on their foreheads. (PROSE: White Canvas [+]James Wylder, A 10,000 Dawns Christmas and The Outer Universe Collection (10,000 Dawns stories featuring DWU elements, Arcbeatle Press, 2018)., The Gendar Conspiracy [+]James Wylder, A 10,000 Dawns Christmas and The Outer Universe Collection (10,000 Dawns stories featuring DWU elements, Arcbeatle Press, 2019).)

History[]

The Gendar and their society were engineered as a "billion year con-job" by Auteur, Gideon, and Virtuoso (PROSE: The Gendar Conspiracy [+]James Wylder, A 10,000 Dawns Christmas and The Outer Universe Collection (10,000 Dawns stories featuring DWU elements, Arcbeatle Press, 2019).) to seed artificial prophecies in ancient history to be found in the future and contribute to Auteur's masterplan to bring the Peace using the 10,000 Dawns. (PROSE: White Canvas [+]James Wylder, A 10,000 Dawns Christmas and The Outer Universe Collection (10,000 Dawns stories featuring DWU elements, Arcbeatle Press, 2018).) The trio were gods to the Gendar, and the massive Statue of the Goddess was built in Auteur's likeness using technology that shouldn't have been capable of doing so. The Gendar were left by two of their Gods, but Virtuoso remained among the Gendar as the governor of their planetary government, the Historic Preservation Society. (PROSE: The Gendar Conspiracy [+]James Wylder, A 10,000 Dawns Christmas and The Outer Universe Collection (10,000 Dawns stories featuring DWU elements, Arcbeatle Press, 2019).)

By a later era, Gendar settlements included a metropolis and several major cities. The Gendar helped Littlejohn investigate prophecies hidden in the Statue of the Goddess, with some of them greeting Graelyn Scythes, Archimedes Von Ahnerabe, and Aesculapius when they arrived to meet with Littlejohn. (PROSE: White Canvas [+]James Wylder, A 10,000 Dawns Christmas and The Outer Universe Collection (10,000 Dawns stories featuring DWU elements, Arcbeatle Press, 2018).)

One of the Gestalt's hosts, long before Kady Williams, was a young Gendar woman called Filin. During this time, which predated the era during which the the Cwejen were created, the planet Gendar faced some kind of imminent threat. Filin made a morally questionable deal with the beings whom Chris Cwej would later know as his Superiors, helping to create the Gentleman for them in exchange for them "nudging" the timelines to prevent her people's destruction. (PROSE: Ring Theory [+]Charles Whitt, Cwej: The Series (Arcbeatle Press, 2020).)

The Gendar had movies, shows, and music. (PROSE: She Came From Another World! [+]James Wylder, P.R.O.B.E. short stories (Arcbeatle Press, 2020).)

In a backstory retconned onto him by a member of the Collective of the Retconning Crocodiles, the Man in Grey had Gendar DNA gene spliced into him by the Society of the Evaluators during his time as a member of it. (PROSE: The Man in Grey's Christmas Carol [+]Callum Phillpott, Jenny Over-There: The Nine-Two-Five Universe (Archive of Our Own, 2024). Chapter 5, "The Second Part of the Second First Haunting".)

By 2011, the Vault contained the corpse of a Gendar, among other artefacts of alien life. (PROSE: A Worthy Successor [+]James Hornby and James Wylder, Cyberon (Arcbeatle Press, 2020).)

In the mid-2010s, Maxiassa, previously a tour guide, fled the planet in a spacecraft. It landed in England whereupon she met Giles of the Preternatural Research Bureau. He helped her gain asylum under the name of Maxie Masters on the proviso she worked for P.R.O.B.E. as a technician. (PROSE: She Came From Another World! [+]James Wylder, P.R.O.B.E. short stories (Arcbeatle Press, 2020).) For "many pressing reasons", Maxie chose to keep her true species a secret from her coworkers, despite her attempts to befriend them, with Giles being the only person in whom she fully confided. (PROSE: Out of the Box [+]Aristide Twain, Out of the Shadows (P.R.O.B.E., Arcbeatle Press, 2021).) By 4 April 2021, however, the whole team was in on the secret. (HOMEVID: The Only Cure [+]P.R.O.B.E. (BBV Productions, 2022).)
