Francis "Frank" Armitage was headteacher at Coal Hill School, later Coal Hill Academy, up until his death on 27 October 2016.

Coal Hill School[]

Frank Armitage had been headteacher at Coal Hill School as early as 19 July 2013. (TV: Nightvisiting) He was aware of the Doctor, and knew he was an alien, as the school's governor, Ian Chesterton, was an old friend of his. (PROSE: The Day of the Doctor)

Armitage had had a number of "discussions" with Courtney Woods and her parents, Mr and Mrs Woods, over the last couple of terms before Clara Oswald joined Coal Hill School as an English Teacher. (PROSE: Normality)

Armitage answered a call from the Eleventh Doctor to request Clara's presence, and told him he would pass on his location so Clara could meet him when the school closed for the day. (PROSE: The Day of the Doctor)

He introduced Clara to the school's new Maths teacher, Danny Pink. (TV: Into the Dalek)

During a meeting, he also introduced the staff to the school's temporary caretaker, "John Smith", who was actually the Twelfth Doctor working undercover. He was present at parents' evening, and told Mr Woods and Mrs Woods that Clara should be back in a few minutes, after she had run off with Danny. (TV: The Caretaker)

Shortly after Danny Pink's death, he informed the students and staff of the school about the death and also mentioned how their sympathy must also be expressed to Clara, who many knew had a relationship with the late maths teacher. (TV: Dark Water)

As head teacher in 2016, Mr Armitage oversaw renovations to Coal Hill, including the construction of the Barbara Wright Building. At the start of the new term, he put April MacLean in charge of decorating the gymnasium for the Autumn Prom. He served as head teacher when Andrea Quill and Charlie Smith arrived. (TV: For Tonight We Might Die)

A week later, on 27 October 2016, he interviewed Victoria Prim for a job at Coal Hill. The afternoon after the interview, (PROSE: What She Does Next Will Astound You) he was skinned alive and subsequently killed by a skin-peeling dragon. (TV: The Coach with the Dragon Tattoo)

His initials "Armitage. F." were later added to the Coal Hill School Roll of Honours Board, and Dorothea Ames replaced him as Headteacher of Coal Hill School. (TV: Co-Owner of a Lonely Heart)
