Francis "Frank" Armitage was headteacher at Coal Hill School, later Coal Hill Academy, up until his death on 27 October 2016.

Frank Armitage had been headteacher at Coal Hill School as early as 19 July 2013. (TV: Nightvisiting [+]Patrick Ness, Class television stories series 1 (BBC Three, 2016).) He was aware of the Doctor, and knew he was an alien, as the school's governor, Ian Chesterton, was an old friend of his. Armitage answered a call from the Eleventh Doctor to request Clara's presence, and told him he would pass on his location so Clara could meet him when the school closed for the day. During a meeting, he also introduced the staff to the school's temporary caretaker, "John Smith", who was actually the Twelfth Doctor working undercover. He was present at parents' evening, and told Mr Woods and Mrs Woods that Clara should be back in a few minutes, after she had run off with Danny. Shortly after Danny Pink's death, he informed the students and staff of the school about the death and also mentioned how their sympathy must also be expressed to Clara, who many knew had a relationship with the late maths teacher. Coal Hill Academy[]
As head teacher in 2016, Mr Armitage oversaw renovations to Coal Hill, including the construction of the Barbara Wright Building. At the start of the new term, he put April MacLean in charge of decorating the gymnasium for the Autumn Prom. He served as head teacher when Andrea Quill and Charlie Smith arrived. A week later, on 27 October 2016, he interviewed Victoria Prim for a job at Coal Hill. Legacy[]
