What counts as an enemy of an incarnation of the Doctor? The Draconians, Slitheen etc. were listed as part of the Alliance, who were enemies of the Doctor, yet are not part of the Eleventh Doctor enemies. Should they be? I personally think so, as even without an appearance, they are mentioned to be. Opinions? The Thirteenth Doctor 12:33, July 7, 2010 (UTC)
I think the "whole enemy of [number] Doctor" thing is silly because, as Steven Moffat keeps saying, there is only one Doctor. Whoever is his enemy, is the enemy of him. There is just one Doctor, so this "enemy of [insert number]" thing seems totally out-of-place.
- Well I think what we should just classify as an enemy are the individuals not the races or creatures cause as shown in stories that even Daleks can be good like in Evil of the Daleks. --Vitas 05:56, July 8, 2010 (UTC)
- I think a slight re-wording of the categories instead of Category:Third Doctor enemies is should be reworded to Category:Enemies of the Third Doctor. I may seem like a slightly pedantic thing but their meanings but, in reading it, 'Enemies of the Third Doctor' reads as being more correct than 'Third Doctor enemies'. 'Enemies of the Third Doctor' is more of a category title, while 'Third Doctor enemy' in the singular sounds like something that would be in a sentence and it's been pluralised to be a category title.
- Vitas' idea has merit, but, in the case of the Daleks the overwhelming majority of them consider the Doctor an enemy of the Daleks, the same goes for the Cybermen. I think if we're going to classify whole races as enemies of the Doctor we need some evidence, perhaps several sources of evidence? The Draconians are one of those siticky ones as we've got evidence here and there that he's a friend of Draconia.
- There isn't just one Doctor, there are different incarnations of him, that's how we on this wiki classify him anyways. Terrance Dicks also has the opinion that there is something essentially 'Doctor-ish' about the Doctor and that you can write for any Doctor as long as you include this Doctor-ishness. This may be why I find some of his novels somewhat lacking in when it comes to the Doctor's character. --Tangerineduel 14:35, July 12, 2010 (UTC)
- The very fact that we have to ask this question means that these templates and categories are completely useless. They depend upon having the mindset of the creator. Abolish them now. The Doctor doesn't necessarily think of races, aside from maybe the Daleks, as universal enemies, anyway. I mean, his reaction is almost always, "Let me help you out by finding you another place to live". He doesn't believe they're enemies. He finds the werewolf beautiful, respects the right of the Silurians to co-exist, thinks that the aliens in Amy's Choice were pitiable because they're actually a great race. From an in-universe perspective — that is, that of the Doctor — they aren't enemies, they're just misguided, misplaced, or in some way literally needing a doctor's ministrations. So I think the term "enemy" is dangerously close to OOU.
- Oh, and btw, these "Enemies" categories can create a massive category tree recursion, and they should be deleted simply on the basis of database management. If you're going to keep them around, please do not put categories within them. So, for instance, you can put the page Dalek into Category:Third Doctor enemies, but never ever put Category:Daleks into Category:Third Doctor enemies. CzechOut ☎ | ✍ 16:33, July 17, 2010 (UTC)
