First Infantry Division

The Japanese First Infantry Division was a division of the Imperial Japanese Army which supported the Kodo Ha. The Division was one of the prime instigators of a revolt in Tokyo in February 1936, although the Sakura Kai played a leading behind-the-scenes role in engineering the revolt. While many government ministers and civil servants were killed, the revolt officially failed after it was put down by imperial decree and the Tosei Ha maintained control of the army. Nevertheless, the revolt had huge consequences for Japan's foreign policy as the Tosei Ha made alterations. It ultimately led to the outbreak of the Pacific War/World War II in Asia in July 1937.
