Film Star Wins Oscar—Misses Premiere! was a prose story printed in Issue 28 of TV Century 21, which promoted the release of Dr. Who and the Daleks, the first Doctor Who feature film with Peter Cushing. Printed on the Cosmic Capers funnies page of the magazine, it was formatted as a newspaper brief and served as a tongue-in-cheek parody of the film and its premiere.
Summary[]
Sir Seamus Vampire, a film star, has earned an Oscar for his appearance as the Doctor in a new horror picture, Doctor Da and the Humanies. When he tries to attend the official premiere of the film, however, the crowd outside the cinema is so dense that Sir Seamus's chauffeur cannot make his way through, forcing him to take Seamus back to his and Lady Vampire's hotel.
Characters[]
Worldbuilding[]
- Sir Seamus Vampire is Irish.
- Doctor Da and the Humanies tells the story of Dr. Da, in his spaceship the Dardis, visits the planet Eartho, where he has "frightening adventures" with its umbrella-wielding inhabitants, the City Men.
Notes[]
- Sir Seamus is a clear parody of Peter Cushing, with his last name of "Vampire" referencing Cushing's famous role as Van Helsing in Hammer's Dracula films.
