Professor Owen Watson (PROSE: Doctor Who and the Hand of Fear) was the director of the Nunton Experimental Complex.

Biography[]

Watson was married with a young daughter named Susie, who answered the telephone when her father called from the complex. When Susie passed the phone to her mother, Watson told her there was a crisis at work and he would have to stay late.

When Sarah Jane Smith broke into the complex and took Eldrad's hand into the reactor room, Watson assumed that she was a terrorist intent on sabotage. However, he learned the truth from the Fourth Doctor, who also told him Eldrad's origins. This prompted Watson to order a nuclear strike by the RAF on the complex to destroy Eldrad, but it was neutralised by Eldrad.

He then returned to the complex and attempted to shoot the regenerated Eldrad, but this also failed. Eldrad nearly killed Watson, but the Doctor convinced her to spare him. (TV: The Hand of Fear)

Behind the scenes[]

Anthony Ainley, Dinsdale Landen, Glyn Owen, Patrick Stewart and Stephen Yardley were considered for the role before Glyn Houston was cast.
