Fallout was the eighth release of the BBC Torchwood audio range.

Publisher's summary[]

When Yasmin finds a jewelled egg in her grandfather's shed, her first thought is to sell it. Unfortunately, the object is no valuable Fabergé antique, but a dangerous weapon from another planet. Worse still, the buyer she finds online is a Russian secret agent working for the Committee for Extraterrestrial Research, who promptly swipes it, kills her brother Sayed and lands her in hospital.

When Sgt Andy Davidson realises that he's not dealing with an ordinary double shooting, he calls Gwen Cooper, who breaks the bad news about the egg and its deadly contents. With no Torchwood to help, and Gwen in America, it's up to Andy and Yasmin to follow the trail of the "Shiva virus" — all the way from Cardiff to the British Museum...

Plot[]

In her late grandfather's shed in Grangetown, Yasmin finds what seems to be a bejewelled egg which, after speaking with her brother Sayed, she decides to sell online to Yezhov. Yezhov, an agent of the KVI, shoots Sayed dead and wounds Yasmin, who is taken to St Helen's Hospital where she is visited by Andy, who is investigating the attack. Andy learns from Gwen that the egg contains the Shiva virus, a contagion likely sent by silicon-based aliens to wipe out Earth and which he will have to deal with himself due to Gwen and Rhys being in the US, and is later shown footage of Sayed walking out of the mortuary and leaving in a taxi.

Yezhov holds Yasmin at gunpoint and forces her and Andy into following Sayed to the airport, explaining that the Shiva egg was taken from the Hub after its destruction and that the man he shot is actually Kalogzul, a silicon-based impostor posing as Sayed. A taxi runs Andy's police car through a crash barrier and, when Andy and Yasmin awaken, they find that Yezhov and the egg have taken by Kalogzul. They head to the British Museum, where Jack sent the key to the egg for safekeeping, and Yasmin kills Kalogzul with an electromagnetic pulse sent out by a device hidden by Torchwood inside a statue of Rameses II. Having been infected with a dose of the Shiva virus by Kalogzul as a motivator, Yezhov explodes.

Yasmin is taken to the hospital to have a bullet wound tended to and Andy is approached by Mr Charteris of Thames House to give a debrief to COBRA, but he refuses as he intends to visit Yasmin and head back to Cardiff to sleep.

Notes[]

  • This is the only audiobook in the BBC Torchwood audio range not to feature any operative from Torchwood Three in a large role.

Continuity[]

This section needs a cleanup.

Should be written from an out of universe perspective.
