Face masks, Surgical masks or Covid masks were worn by humans to protect either their nose and mouth or their nose and eyes. During the COVID-19 pandemic, they became an invaluable means of preventing acquiring the virus and spreading it to others.
In 3000 Tokyo, the Tenth Doctor and Martha Jones, having escaped duelling bank robbery attempts by gangs of aliens, were trapped inside the vault of one of the gangs. (PROSE: 8.46) The Eighth Doctor created masks with similarly quirky designs, offering each of the residents of 107 Baker Street a mask featuring a picture of their face.
