F.I.D.O was a robot dog built and owned by Auteur's twelfth incarnation.

Biography[]

Auteur took F.I.D.O with her when she settled down in a Town of her own making within the White Canvas for years to raise the deaged Graelyn Scythes over again. Wanting to avoid Graelyn becoming too dangerously lonely while still isolating her, Auteur arranged for F.I.D.O to serve as company for the girl by asking her to walk F.I.D.O for her every day. The two genuinely became friends, although Graelyn believed that "dogs always love[d] people", meaning that he didn't properly count as a friend she'd made, as such.

On one occasion, when Graelyn was ten, she bolted away from F.I.D.O and wandered into the White Canvas without warning, which was forbidden. She quickly lost sight of the Town and began sinking into the white, calling for F.I.D.O, who revealed his ability to fly to her and rescued her. He subsequently agreed to keep her escapade a secret from Auteur, but warned her that he wouldn't save her a second time if she was foolish enough to try again, with Graelyn agreed was fair enough under the circumstances. A little later, however, seeing that she was still lonely even with him, F.I.D.O advised her to try and befriend the Hollow Childe and Citizen 176, against Auteur's wishes.

Seven years later, F.I.D.O was in Auteur's house when Graelyn, now fully apprised of how the Town came into existence, dropped in to confront her, soon backed up by Archimedes Von Ahnerabe and Taranis. Auteur told him to put the kettle on for some tea, though they didn't get the chance to drink it. Later, after the defeat of Auteur and the unmaking of the Town, F.I.D.O reappeared to Graelyn, who'd been left alone in what remained of the White Canvas. He told her that she had "done well", and that he had "tired of masters" and no longer considered himself an agent of Auteur. However, he still cared about Auteur despite her evil deeds, and asked for Graelyn's help in finding Auteur again and saving her from the consequences of the desperate acts to which F.I.D.O expected that her defeat would drive her.

Graelyn agreed, and F.I.D.O transported the two of them to a future time and place when Auteur, now regenerated into a male incarnation, had been flayed alive and was dying in the dust. F.I.D.O stabilised his condition and the two of them transported him back to the White Canvas, where F.I.D.O contacted Gideon, who persuaded the cult to properly induct Auteur and save his life in the process. With their good work done, F.I.D.O then transported Graelyn back home. They then parted ways. (PROSE: White Canvas)

Appearance[]

F.I.D.O. had metal legs and a tail which made a "squeaking sound" when he wagged it, as well as retractable glider wings. Possessed of a childlike notion that it made him "cool", he wore sunglasses. (PROSE: White Canvas)

Personality[]

A highly literate individual, F.I.D.O enjoyed talking about human philosophers and essayists. (PROSE: White Canvas)
