Eregous Bates was a native of Hatre Sedtry in the star system Repton's Cluster. (PROSE: Attack of the Cybermen)
In the 27th century, Bates was one of numerous humanoids captured by Neomorph Cybermen and taken to Cyber-Control on Telos to be converted. However, the process failed, leaving Bates with artificial limbs and a grey skin pigment. Along with numerous other failed converts, including fellow Hatre Sedtry native Lintus Stratton, Bates was enslaved to prepare explosives on Telos's surface as part of the Cybermen's plan to destroy the planet for research purposes.
Bates and Stratton eventually escaped and tried to reach Cyber Control, meeting up with Gustave Lytton and Charles Griffiths along the way, but Lytton was recaptured and Bates was killed trying to open the door to the time machine. The door opened and a Cyberman shot Stratton and Griffiths. (TV: Attack of the Cybermen)
