Edinburgh was located on the east coast of Scotland. To the west of Edinburgh was Glasgow. (TV: The Lie of the Land)

Notable landmarks in Edinburgh included Edinburgh Castle, (AUDIO: Death on the Mile) the Heart of Midlothian and St Giles' Cathedral. It was also notable for the Royal Mile. In 1645, the town was surrounded by walls. (PROSE: Plague City)

On 6 October 1866, (COMIC: The Pictures of Josephine Day) the Eighth Doctor and Josie Day came to Edinburgh's Theatre Royal to see Philippot's Magesterial Delights. They realised that the performance was being used by beings from a a reflection of Edinburgh in a pocket dimension to get into the real Edinburgh. The Doctor and Josie journeyed into the mirror Edinburgh, rescued all the prisoners kept there by the mirror people, and then severed the link between the mirror dimension and the real Edinburgh.
