Earl of Essex

Earl of Essex was a title in the British nobility, held by at least two people.

In 1559, the Earl of Essex attended the coronation dinner of Queen Elizabeth I, during which he started throwing drumsticks around. (PROSE: Cat's Cradle: Witch Mark)

In 1601, the Earl of Essex rebelled against Queen Elizabeth; he was joined by Robert Catesby. (GAME: The Gunpowder Plot)

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]

  • Not mentioned in either source is the names of the two Earls, which were, respectively, William Parr and Robert Devereux.
  • Cat's Cradle: Witch Mark only identifies the individual as "Essex"; however, in context his intended identity is clear.
