Dracula was a three-episode television miniseries created by Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat which aired on BBC One from 1 to 3 January 2020 and subsequently released on Netflix. Like Moffat's prior shows Jekyll and Sherlock, it was based on a classic work of English literature, in this case Bram Stoker's Dracula.
Notably, the show's first episode, The Rules of the Beast, contained a connection to the Doctor Who universe. In a letter to her fiancé, Mina Murray jokingly lists several potential romantic partners she might engage in his absence, and one of these is "the adorable barmaid at the Rose & Crown, who I know you have also admired." The Rose & Crown and its barmaid, Clara Oswin Oswald, had previously appeared in Doctor Who's 2012 Christmas Special The Snowmen, which was also written by Steven Moffat.[1]
Cast in the Dracula series with Doctor Who appearances included John Heffernan, Jonathan Aris, Sacha Dhawan, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, Catherine Schell, Youssef Kerkour, Samuel Blenkin, Natasha Radski, Lydia West, Phil Dunster, and Sarah Niles. Jonny Campbell directed the first episode, and the score was composed by David Arnold. Alongside Gatiss and Moffat, Sue Vertue and Ben Irving served as the show's executive producers.
