- The cover is a photograph of the Fourth Doctor from The Ribos Operation. Unusually, he is not in his familiar costume, instead disguised as a guard.
- This is the first annual to feature a version of the then-current Doctor Who logo on its front cover, and therefore the first to write the title in full rather than the abbreviation “Dr. Who”. Consequently, it's also the first annual to drop "The" from its title.
- A PDF version of the entire annual was included with the DVD release of City of Death.
