Additional notes[]
- The Doctor is referred to throughout as either "Dr Who" or “Doctor”.
- On several occasions the Doctor atypically refers to Jo Grant as “my child”.
- In the story “Hunt to the Death” the Doctor refers to a previous visit he made to “the Planet Llios”, where he helped the humanoid natives defeat the Kelads, giant praying mantis-like robots. The fact that he is recognised by Fhibo, one of the natives, suggests that this visit took place during his current incarnation.
- “Kelad” is, purely coincidentally, “Dalek” backwards.
- The TARDIS is referenced on only a couple of occasions, as the Tardis.
- The only specific reference to the Doctor’s exile to Earth by the Time Lords – as well as the grounding of the Tardis – is in the story “Doorway to Nowhere”, during which The Master alleges he was also exiled to Earth by them.
- The Doctor’s previous “Time travels” had brought him into contact with various species, including the shapeless “Triolites from Ur”, as featured in “Saucer of Fate”.
- The photographs used on the front and back cover are from TV: Terror of the Autons, although it’s clear that some of the interior illustrations remain based on images from Jon Pertwee’s debut season.
